Forward Thinking
Artwork Description
It's his gaze that pulls you in, but as you get closer, it's the many details that keep you coming back for more.
This portrait of Stuart, a fellow artist from Scotland, is filled with small discoveries. Springtime imagery emerges from within his bearded face, revealing itself among fragments of dinnerware and ceramic. Flowers, leaves, and unexpected details appear where you least expect them, rewarding a closer look.
One of the things I love most about working in mosaic is the opportunity for surprise. A pattern that once lived on a plate can become part of a cheek or beard. Familiar objects take on new life, creating layers of meaning and visual intrigue.
From across the room, Stuart's thoughtful gaze commands attention. Up close, the individual fragments begin telling their own stories.
The longer you look, the more there is to find.
Stuart is #64 in my ongoing series of mosaic portraits of contemporary artists from around the world.
