Day Dreamer
Artwork Description
What better sitter than one's self?
Lost in Thought captures a familiar state for me—that place somewhere between daydreaming and problem solving, where ideas drift in and out and time seems to disappear.
As artists, we spend a lot of time looking closely at other people. Every now and then it's worth turning that attention inward. I wasn't trying to create a perfect likeness here. I was more interested in capturing a mood—that suspended moment when your mind wanders and unexpected connections begin to form.
Like many of my portraits, this one is built from an assortment of materials that have lived previous lives. Stained glass, crockery, smalti, and porcelain come together to create a face that feels both familiar and slightly dreamlike.
